REBECCA NORRIS WEBB, Havana, Cuba, 2008
OPENING RECEPTION with the Artists, Saturday, September 17, 2 - 4 PM We are proud to announce our Fall 2011 show, Violet Isle: Alex Webb and Rebecca Norris Webb. The couple's "two looks," a term they use to describe their distinctive photographic styles, come together in this exhibition to explore the vibrancy of Cuba and Mexico.
Alex Webb, born in San Francisco and an alumnus of Harvard University, joined Magnum Photos in 1976. A street photographer whose unique vision spans four decades, Webb does not stage his photos; instead, he pursues the gaps that emerge when immigrants, transients and children inhabit the same spaces. For that reason, much of Webb's work can be linked to isolation, whether it is Webb's isolation as an outside observer or the isolation of his subjects from their surroundings.
Rebecca Norris Webb has been using her camera for the past decade to explore the complex relationship between people and the natural world. Born in Rushville, Indiana, and a graduate of Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism in 1989 Norris Webb was originally a poet. Her literary mind is present in every image she takes, shaping a portfolio that speaks wordless volumes.
Violet Isle: Alex Webb and Rebecca Norris Webb runs through October 22.

new work by... WANG WUSHENG, From the Series, "Homeland," 2010
Although Wang Wusheng is best known for his soaring images of Mount Huangshan, or Yellow Mountain, his "Homeland" works are varied in scale and subject. Wusheng's crisp black-and-white presentation mimics the work of traditional Chinese landscape painters. With "Homeland," Wusheng captures farmlands, houses, animals and people. The result is monumental.

new work by... PAULETTE TAVORMINA, Bread and Dragonfly, 2011
Paulette Tavormina continues her Natura Morta series with this decadent feast. Rustic bread and cheese are accompanied by grapes, figs, peaches and cherries, recalling the signature elements of her earlier images. Tavormina's work begs for an active audience, one that will pay close attention to the drying leaves and cracked nuts that make her still life come alive.

The Mind's Eye at The Harn Museum
Uelsmann does not use Photoshop or any digital tools to create his images. His photographs are often the composite of several negatives, put together to create allegorical or symbolic imagery. "I feel my creative process remains intrinsically linked to the alchemy of the darkroom," he says.
